My memory of this view is crystal clear. It was a magnificent spot at the tail end of a kayaking odyssey into unfamiliar waters, far beyond the comfortable bounds of familiarity. Lost in the motion of paddling, the sound of the water against the hull, and the spectacular views ahead, thoughts of time and distance fell by the wayside. I simply leaned back, savoured the solitude and the feeling of being at one with the moment. Just me, the lake and one long, uninterrupted gorgeous view. I was guided home by the currents that afternoon, with surprisingly little effort on my part. The lakes looking after me, as they always do.
